Highfield International Level 02 Award In Security Guarding, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Join our mission to make schools and communities safer, one workshop at a time.
Black Onyx Academy aims to address knife crime and improve community safety through S.A.L.T., our professionally delivered, Highfield-accredited training initiative. Our goal is to make life-saving conflict resolution and emergency first aid skills accessible to professionals working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
To deliver this training where it’s needed most, we rely on the support of our Community Champions, Regional Partners and National Advocates – organisations committed to creating safer communities.
Knife crime remains one of the UK’s most urgent public safety challenges. The impact extends far beyond each incident, affecting families, schools, and neighbourhoods, and placing sustained pressure on public services. Awareness alone does not create change; practical, evidence-based intervention does.
The S.A.L.T. workshop, developed by Black Onyx Academy, delivers accredited training that equips participants with both prevention strategies and vital emergency response skills.
Workshops are delivered by experienced former Armed Forces personnel, making each session engaging, credible, and grounded in real-world expertise. The workshop is accredited by Highfield, and participants receive a Level 02 certification on completion.
This one-day workshop covers six key areas: understanding knife crime; law and legislation; conflict management; knife crime statistics and trends; emergency first aid and catastrophic bleeding; and solutions and community action.
The S.A.L.T. workshop is designed for adults in roles of responsibility, such as teachers, safeguarding leads, and youth workers. Each session accommodates up to twelve participants: ten professionals and two partner organisation employees. This split enables employee engagement while keeping the primary focus on training responsible adults.
A shorter, age-appropriate unaccredited workshop is also available for young people, supporting resilience and safety awareness across schools, youth organisations, and the wider community.
Partner support turns prevention into practical action delivering accredited life-saving training where it makes the greatest difference. Locations are selected through local data, surveys, and consultation with community stakeholders, ensuring delivery is informed by real need and local insight.
Workshops strengthen resilience, build awareness, and increase access to lifesaving training and resources. Each workshop contributes to safer environments, eases pressure on public services, and helps rebuild trust within communities.
Beyond the S.A.L.T. workshops, extended partnership support can fund community initiatives, including knife amnesty programmes, bleed-kit training sessions, and other events that support sustained change.
A partnership gives organisations a credible way to support safer learning environments and more resilient communities. Each sponsored workshop delivers accredited training and immediate benefit, supported by transparent reporting.
More than a financial contribution, sponsorship forms part of a wider partnership approach supporting credible, outcomes-led intervention to address knife crime. It reflects a shared commitment to safer communities, delivered through trusted expertise and consistent delivery.
Partner organisations gain opportunities for staff to engage with front-line delivery. This experience strengthens connections while embedding CSR values in practical and lasting ways.

At Black Onyx Academy, our work around knife crime is not only about prevention. It is also about ensuring that individuals, organisations and communities have the knowledge, confidence and equipment to respond effectively when the worst happens.
Through our S.A.L.T. (Save A Life Today) programme and practical Bleed Control Kit Training, we are proud to support the work of The Daniel Baird Foundation and its mission to increase the availability of lifesaving bleed control equipment across the UK.
The Daniel Baird Foundation was established following the tragic death of 26-year-old Daniel Baird, who was fatally stabbed in Birmingham in 2017. Daniel died as a result of catastrophic bleeding, with no publicly accessible bleed control kit available at the scene.
Since then, Daniel’s mother, Lynne Baird MBE, has campaigned tirelessly to increase awareness of catastrophic bleeding and to make bleed control kits readily available in public places, businesses and communities across the UK.
The Foundation’s Control the Bleed campaign closely aligns with our own belief that lifesaving equipment should be accessible wherever people live, work, learn and socialise.
Black Onyx Academy is proud to support the Foundation and help promote its message through our training, community engagement and knife crime prevention work.
Having the right equipment available during the first critical minutes of a catastrophic bleed can make a significant difference while emergency medical assistance is on its way.
The Daniel Baird Foundation Bleed Control Kits supplied by TraumaMed Solutions contain specialist equipment designed to help a responder manage severe and potentially life-threatening bleeding.
The kits supplied by TraumaMed Solutions are registered and compliant with UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) requirements, giving organisations confidence in the equipment they are making available to their staff, visitors and communities.
We encourage businesses, schools, colleges, community venues and other organisations to consider making bleed control equipment accessible alongside other emergency equipment such as defibrillators.
Black Onyx Academy is proud to work with TraumaMed Solutions as our go-to medical equipment supplier.
TraumaMed Solutions specialises in pre-hospital emergency medical equipment and supplies professional-grade products designed for use in demanding and time-critical environments.
Their commitment to high-quality equipment and improving emergency preparedness makes them a natural partner for our work.
Through our relationship with TraumaMed Solutions and our support for The Daniel Baird Foundation, we are helping organisations move beyond simply owning emergency equipment. We want people to understand where it is, what is inside it and how to use it confidently when every second matters.
Simply installing a bleed control kit is only part of the solution.
Black Onyx Academy delivers practical Bleed Control Kit Training, giving participants hands-on experience in recognising catastrophic bleeding and using the equipment contained within a bleed control kit.
We want organisations to go beyond simply installing lifesaving equipment. Our approach brings together awareness, access to professional bleed control equipment and practical training so that people have the confidence to act in an emergency.

Having the equipment is only part of being prepared. Black Onyx Academy provides practical Bleed Control Kit Training, helping people recognise catastrophic bleeding, understand the equipment available to them and develop the confidence to take immediate action while emergency services are on their way.
The right equipment. The right training. The confidence to act when every second matters
The S.A.L.T. Young People’s Workshop is a structured, interactive session that helps young people understand knife crime, everyday conflict and how online behaviour can affect their safety. Using short videos, guided discussion and simple scenarios, the workshop develops core safety skills in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
As part of the wider S.A.L.T. Workshop ini- tiative, the workshop supports schools and youth organisations to address knife-related risk directly and promote safer choices among the young people they support.
Knife-related incidents continue to affect young people, their families and local com- munities across the UK. Even young people who do not carry weapons may encounter risk through peers or online activity.
The S.A.L.T. Young People’s Workshop provides a practical, preventative response by helping young people recognise risk and understand the consequences of their choices, reinforcing safer decision-making in everyday situations and building confidence to use simple strategies to stay safe, seek sup- port and step away from escalating situations.
The workshop is designed for young people aged approximately 10–18 in school and youth settings, including:
Content and delivery are adapted to the age and needs of each group, helping to ensure the workshop remains appro- priate, inclusive and supportive.
The S.A.L.T. Young People’s Workshop is delivered by experienced instructors following a clear, structured lesson plan. Sessions are introduced with simple ground rules that emphasise participation, respect, and giving everyone the opportunity to contribute.
The workshop’s format allows space for questions, reflection and brief assessment of learning, helping staff to see how well key messages have been understood.
The session is organised into four mod- ules that build awareness and develop practical safety and emergency skills.
This module helps young people understand what knife crime is, why it happens and how to recognise risks, pressures and consequences for individuals, families and communities.
Participants explore common causes of argu- ments among young people and learn calming techniques such as listening, using relaxed body language, being honest and respectful, seeking help and leaving situations safely.
This module looks at how social media and messaging can create pressure, encourage unkind behaviour or escalate conflict, and highlights simple ways to recognise harmful content, limit its spread and stay safer online.
The final module covers how to respond in an emergency, including making effective 999 calls, applying pressure to wounds, and starting CPR while waiting for help to arrive.
By the end of the workshop, participants
will be able to:
Where time allows, facilitators use quick knowledge checks, scenario-based ques- tions and short practical demonstrations to reinforce learning and check understanding.
The S.A.L.T. Young People’s Workshop is a key element of the S.A.L.T. (Save A Life Today) initiative, working alongside adult workshops to deliver comprehensive education on knife crime and serious violence prevention.
The programme equips young people with practical skills across four vital areas: knife crime awareness, conflict management, responsible online behaviour, and emergency first aid. Through this targeted approach, schools, colleges, and youth organisa- tions can strengthen their safeguarding practices and ensure confident, effective responses to potential knife crime incidents.
Filmed during a recent S.A.L.T. workshop, this six minute scenario recreates the chaos, pressure and emotional intensity of a real stabbing incident. Designed to reflect the reality of what first responders may face, it places viewers inside the confusion and urgency of those critical first moments.
The demonstration shows exactly what to do if you are first on scene: checking for danger, calling emergency services, communicating clearly, and taking immediate action to control catastrophic bleeding. It also highlights how to manage bystanders, provide reassurance and remain calm under pressure.
This scenario is part of our wider S.A.L.T. mission to equip individuals with the confidence and practical skills needed to act decisively and potentially save a life.
