This week, Hanley Park was the focus of a coordinated day of action delivered as part of Operation Sceptre, our S.A.L.T. (Save A Life Today) initiative, and the wider Making Places Safer plan.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part. More than 65 volunteers and local partners came together with one shared goal: to improve safety, visibility and reassurance across the local area.

What the day of action included
The activity was wide-ranging, practical and community-focused. Across the day, teams supported:
- A park sweep and litter pick
- Trading Standards visits to local tobacco shops
- Vehicle checks
- Welfare checks for rough sleepers
Partnership working in action
This is what effective partnership working looks like. Police officers, PCSOs, Local Authority teams, park staff, community organisations, local businesses and volunteers all played a vital role in making a positive difference.
When different services and local people come together in a joined-up way, the impact is immediate: a stronger presence, better engagement, and a clearer message that this community is cared for and protected.

Community safety is a shared responsibility
Knife crime and wider community safety issues cannot be solved by one organisation alone. They require shared responsibility, trust and sustained collaboration.
Days like this show what is possible when everyone commits to protecting people and the places they live in, not just through words, but through action.
Thank you
Thank you to every organisation and individual who gave their time, energy and expertise to support this work. It matters, and the difference it makes is felt by the whole community.
