Deliverers of Physical Intervention in the Private Security Industry

To complete the Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention in the Private Security Industry, it is essential to hold a Level 3 qualification in Education and Training or an equivalent teaching credential. This requirement ensures trainers have the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver effective instruction, assess learner performance, and maintain professional standards.

Please note that 13 hours is the minimum contact time (MCT) as stipulated by the SIA. Minimum contact time is defined as the time a learner must spend under the immediate guidance or supervision of a trainer, assessor, or invigilator (including assessment). It does not include time spent checking ID, assessing English language skills, or breaks. This time will be monitored and enforced by Highfield Qualifications.

This qualification is designed for trainers who intend to deliver physical intervention skills within the private security industry. It ensures that trainers understand the legal framework, risk management considerations, and safe instructional methods required to teach disengagement and non-restrictive physical intervention techniques safely and professionally.

Assessment
Assessment is through:

• Practical teaching and demonstration of physical intervention skills
• Written assessments covering legal and professional knowledge
• Micro-teach delivery session evaluated by a qualified assessor

Certification
Successful learners receive the Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training in the Private Security Industry, enabling them to deliver approved PI training as part of SIA-licensed security qualifications (subject to awarding body approval).

• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Level 3 Award in Education and Training or above)
• A current Level 3 First Aid qualification
• A Level 2 Conflict Management qualification (or equivalent operational experience)
